Support for non-Chinese-speaking (NCS) families

The Hong Kong Education Bureau classifies students whose first language isn't Chinese as non-Chinese-speaking (NCS). Schools that admit NCS students receive extra government funding (about HK$10,000–20,000 per student per year) for Chinese-language support. Options include international schools / ESF (English, no Cantonese required), English-medium (EMI) DSS and private schools, and affordable aided / government schools with NCS support. Most children pick up basic everyday Cantonese within 6–12 months.
